She's Fer Toral
María Fernanda
Toral Villarreal
20 years old
Born at Mexico City the 6th
of April of1993
Fernanda studied her Primary school and
secondary at the school of ayah and then high school at UVM because it was the
school that she liked the most. And then she entered to Tec de Monterrey to
initiate her professional Career.
She started at first in international relations and then stopped
studying for a semester to take the time of thinking what we really wanted, and
when she got back to school she started at communications. She realized that
international relations was not the best career for her because she thought the
homework was boring and what she really wanted was to express her creative
abilities.
She is now studying communication and digital media and enjoys
it way more that international relations. She likes to produce audiovisuals and
is interested in film industry.
She likes to go to the cinema, hear
music mostly old style from the 80s and 90s such as Depeche mode, The Police,
Toto and Bon Jovi. She also enjoys spending time with her friends and family.
Her dream is to have her own productions
company and being a millionaire as a result of her hard work. Although she also
dreams on marrying Christian bale and having a big family with him, “I know the
other dreams seems to be a little more reliable, but only a little, Ha-ha…”
The happiest day of her life that she
remembers is the day she went to Disneyland. She was about 16 years old, she
said, “I enjoyed it a lot because that was my dream at that age and I had never
been to Disney.”
The saddest day of her life was the day
her aunt Alma pasted away. She was 49 years old and died because of leuchemia.
She was diagnosed only one year before passing away; she said it all happened
so fast. "Although she left my two little cousins without a mother, I know
it was for the best because she was suffering a lot and always said she didn't
like her daughters to see her suffer".
She considers herself as a very happy
person but thinks she still has a lot of obstacles to go through. “I only want
to become successful professionally, economically and with a family that always
keeps me happy and strong”

ATONEMENT
ATONEMENT
Atonement is a movie based
on the novel with the same title written by Ian McEwan and adapted by Christopher
Hampton. The movie describes the life of the three main characters. Robbie
Turner, Cecilia Tallis and Briony Tallis. Briony is a 13 year old girl who
acusses Robbie, Cecilia’s lover, for a crime he didn’t commit. The police take
Robbie and send him to war. Cecilia and Robbin don’t see themselves in a very
long time. When Robbin comes back from war, it seems that he live the live he
wanted with Cecilia, Briony ask them for forgiveness for incriminating Robbin.
This might seem like the truth for what happen in the story, but as it goes on
the real truth is revealed and the first version only stays as what Briony
would like to have happened.
The movie Atonement,
directed by Joe Wright, develops in a non-lineal way. I consider that the way
they travel in different time and perspectives are a remarkable element in the
movie. The art, direction by Ian
Bailie, Nick Gottschalk y Niall Moroney, seems to me like an extraordinary job,
as well as the cinematography directed by Seamus McGarvey. All camera shots are
perfectly taken and composed and they all have a very pleasing aesthetic thanks
to elements like locations, apparel and interior decoration with a very elegant
and classic touch of the decade of the 30s. I consider that the story is very perfectly narrated; in
fact I like very much how time is handled. I regard as incredible the scenes
that involve Briony watching Cecilia and Robbie from the distance, I think it
is extraordinary the way we first see the scene from Briony’s point of view and
then from Ceciia’s and Robbie, but the scene starts before and this creates a
bit of confusion until the accurate action of Briony is shown.
I would have liked more of
this type of scenes were different points of view are demonstrated because I
think they end up as very effective, although they are the same actions, they
favor the development of the characters. I think that in this type of narrative
there tend to be narrative gaps that in the moment they seem as that (gaps) but
as the story continues, they are solved. These momentary gaps create questions
and doubts, which helps to hook up the spectator and make him more involved in
the movie.

The Island of Dolls (La Isla de las Muñecas)
The most
terrifying place of all the country can be found in the lake of Xochimilco, in
Mexico City. The place is commonly called The Island of dolls (la isla de las
muñecas) There is a small island over the lake that keeps the essence of a
horror movie. The house in the island is decorated with incomplete dolls.
Some are
missing legs or arms, other are missing eyes or even the heads.
It took
many years for Julian Santa Ana Barrera to decorate this peculiar island.
Julian was a strange guy who died a few years ago although he will always be
remembered for his house, which turned into a touristic place.
Julian was known as a humble and outgoing man. When he grew old he started to preach the word of god in the
corners of Xochimilco. Since then the people of the town started to call him
crazy. One day a girl died drowned in the lake in front of his house. Julian
used to say that he started to hear voices in house so he started to collect
all the dolls he could to hang them all over his house. He said that the dolls
were used as a protection to “Scare the spooks”.
Julian in 2000
His nephew Anastasio says that surprisingly his uncle died in the exact
same place as the drowned girl.
The day Julian died in April of 2001, the old man approached the lake
for fishing, while he was telling his nephew that a mermaid wanted to take him,
but that he was going to sing for her to stop her. Anastasio, his nephew went
inside the house for a moment and when he returned with his uncle he wasn’t
there anymore, he had died because of a heart attack and fell into the lake.
That is the story of the most terrifying place in Mexico that is now called the
Island of the dolls. There are so many dolls that the authorities are looking
for a museum to keep them.

Last Saturday
22 of February a very important reunion took place in Mexico City in a Bar
called Repúplica in El Centro de Tlalpan at 9pm.
The reason
of the reunion was my arrival to the city. It had been more than two months
since I hadn’t seen my friends and boy friend. The people who went to the
reunion in República were, my boyfriend Alberto Mayorga, Jessica Ramírez, Lucía
Jiménez, Francisco Figueroa, Ana Paula Sánchez, Nizda Sánchez, Mónica Rivas,
Juan Carlos Mena, Omar Núñez, and Daniela Jiménez, all friends of mine.
The topics
we talked about were mainly about how every was doing for the past two months,
we caught up. The most important thing I told everyone was that I have made new
friends and that my courses at the tec in Guadalajara were not easy. The most
important thing that they told me was that Lucía broke uo with his boyfriend
the last week, also that Jessica’s boyfriend was moving out to Irlanda the next
month. We also started planning our holy week vacations. We drank a total of 30
beers and some other drank Bacardí too. It was a very nice reunion and we all
